UNDP supported the Regional Tourism Forum in Osh

October 14, 2021

Ethno-bazaar, glamping tourism, international exhibitions and fairs are some of the unique ways of developing the tourism industry. These and more were part of a regional tourism forum held in Osh with the support of the United Nations Development Programme. The event, titled "Developing Tourism in a New Context by Working Together. Kyrgyzstan 2021" was timed to coincide with World Tourism Day and pursued the main goal of supporting Kyrgyzstan’s tourism sector.

Kyrgyzstan has considerable tourism resources and great potential for the development of tourism, both domestic and international.

The program of the Forum included:

🔹 an international trade fair

🔹 ethno-bazaar

🔹 a showcase of collections by domestic ethno-designers

🔹 glamping tourism

🔹 discussion on sustainable tourism development

🔹 roundtable discussion on “big regional tourism business in a new environment”

🔹 local cultural program

🔹 info-tours

🔹 tourism industry awards

The development of the tourism industry not only has a positive impact on the country's economy, but also contributes to the improvement of life in the regions of the country. After all, it is the remote areas, mountains and regions in general that are attractive to tourists. In this connection, the continuous improvement of entrepreneurs' skills in the field of tourism directly affects the development of the regions of Kyrgyzstan as well. For this reason, such forums are highly relevant and needed right now.

This initiative is taking place in the framework of the Aid for Trade in Central Asia project, supported by the Government of Finland.
