About 200 people from all over Kyrgyzstan exchanged experience on innovative ideas for development

Online workshops “Citizen-Empowered Community Development” covered more than 200 innovators from all around Kyrgyzstan.

Accelerator Labs of UNDP in Kyrgyzstan held a series of online workshops “Citizen-Empowered Community Development”. The events took place from 10 to 11 March 2021. This initiative was implemented by the Accelerator Lab UNDP Kyrgyzstan and the UNDP project "Digital skills and youth employment opportunities in the digital economy in the Kyrgyz Republic " with financial support from the Russian Federation.

More than 200 people attended online workshops in 2 days. Workshops were conducted in Kyrgyz and Russian languages. The main goal was to inform the participants about innovative and technological development solutions that are already being applied in the regions of the country. On the first day of the workshop, Ms. Viktoria Petrova, Head of Exploration, and Mr. Urmat Takirov, Head of Solutions Mapping, presented the basic principles of the UNDP Accelerator Lab.

Speakers were presented by Ms. Aijan Chynybaeva, a civic activist and Vice-Mayor of Bishkek; Mr. Akhmet Makaev, co-founder of the “Dem” platform; Mr. Aidar Kubanychbekov, chairperson of the “Elim, Barsynby?!”; Mr. Timur Mone, founder of the IT school “Jyldyz Academy” and other. The event was streamed on Facebook, reaching out to more people.

The activities consisted of theoretical and practical parts. In the first part of the workshops, speakers made presentations and answered questions from participants in a panel discussion format. And in the second part, the participants, together with the speakers, generated ideas for the communities’ development on the Mural platform.

At the workshops, participants learned more about the context of problems in the regions of the country and were inspired by ideas for possible solutions through open discussions with experts from various fields. Some of the participants and speakers of the workshop later took part in the online hackathon #DevelopMyCommunity, which took place in Bishkek on March 13 and 14, 2021
