Improving access to legal information among residents of border villages

Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in Osh Oblast, Zhylkybaev U. is handing over assets to the border municipalities at the official ceremony.

On 02 January 2020, an official ceremony was held in the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in Osh Oblast to transfer office equipment and furniture to pilot municipalities and district departments of certification and registration of the State Registration Service of Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken oblasts, aimed at increasing access to legal information among residents of border villages.

The event was attended by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in Osh Oblast Zhylkybaev U., representative of the Department of the State Agency for Local Government and Interethnic Relations (GAMSUMO) in Osh and Osh Oblast Turgunbaev Z., head of the State Registration Service Pratova M.K., heads of pilot municipalities, heads of departments for passport control and registration of the State Registration Service (SRS) of the KR, representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kyrgyzstan.

The main objective of the event was to inform the public about the Single-window services, created under each pilot municipality, which will now closely work with the passport and registration departments of the SRS.

“Improving the quality of the provision of state and municipal services to the population is impossible without creating an appropriate technical base. The provided equipment is aimed at creating a control center for providing services to the population in rural areas and improving public interaction with the government bodies, ”said GAMSUMO representative Turgunbaev Z.

Within the framework of this project, office equipment and furniture were transferred for a total amount of 5,036,250 KGS ($72,204). In addition, UNDP has provided training activities for employees of the pilot municipalities to provide legal assistance to the population of the pilot villages.

This initiative became possible within the framework of the UN PBF project "Promoting Kyrgyzstan's youth cohesion and interaction towards Uzbekistan" implemented by UNICEF, UNDP and UNFPA and aims to support the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in putting forward cooperation plans between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, improving social cohesion in the border areas.
