UNDP and KOICA contribute to strengthened crisis coordination and response of the Ministry of Emergency Situations

This assistance was provided as part of the KOICA-UNDP project, titled “improvement of fire safety of the population by strengthening the capacity of the fire and rescue services in the Kyrgyz Republic”. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the project allocated $ 50,000 for the purchase of medical masks and video conference equipment. 25 thousand medical masks have already been handed over to the Ministry of Emergency Situations in June 2020.

UNDP in Kyrgyzstan, from the early stages of the crisis, has been working with the government of Kyrgyzstan to effectively to the COVID-19 crisis. In total, UNDP Kyrgyzstan has provided assistance more than USD 4.4 million in the area of health, early recovery, protection, social cohesion, and election.  UNDP intends to further assist the Government of Kyrgyzstan in mitigating the COVID-19’s impact on Kyrgyzstan’s economy and society by upholding the principle of “leaving no one behind” and by encouraging the country’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
