UNDP announces eco-competition on Solid Waste Management

July 9. BISHKEK. United Nations Development Program (UNDP) invites innovators, representatives of the private sector and civil society to participate in eco-competition on Solid Waste Management. The competition will allow you to develop diverse and effective ideas for Solid Waste Management.

In Bishkek, 1000 tons of waste is collected daily, and the country has accumulated more than 100 million tons of waste, which is placed in landfills. Every year, the population of Bishkek increases, which leads to an increase in the volume of Solid Waste.

The goal of the eco-contest is to find innovative ideas for Waste Management.

We are looking for solutions in the following areas:        

  • Public awareness campaigns on separate waste collection;
  • Waste reduction;
  • Increase the percentage of recycling and reuse of materials;
  • Support for separate waste collection infrastructure;
  • Implementation of new technologies in existing or new enterprises related to processing / sorting / production from recycled materials.

Projects should be implemented from August to November 2020, the winners of the competition receive from 3000 to 5000 US Dollars for implementation of the project. All applications should be sent on the e-mail innovationcall2020@gmail.com by August 7, 2020. The application should include: a project plan, budget, team capabilities, related experience. Additional criteria are available on the UNDP website.

UNDP pays special attention to the issue of environmental education of residents in Kyrgyzstan and develops a responsible attitude to the condition of the environment through educational initiatives and competitions. This eco-initiative is part of the PAGE project (Partnership Actions for a Green Economy - https://www.un-page.org).
