UNDP transferred equipment to the State border service of Batken province

On 30 January 2020, the State Border Service Administration in Batken hosted an official ceremony of handing over computer equipment for checkpoints, located in Kadamjay district of Batken province. The equipment was provided in the framework of the project "Promoting Kyrgyzstan's youth cohesion and interaction towards Uzbekistan" and is aimed to create favorable conditions for citizens of border regions crossing the state border of the Kyrgyz Republic with the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by the leadership and personnel of the State Border Service of  Batken province, as well as UNDP representatives in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Within the framework of the project "Promoting Kyrgyzstan's youth cohesion and interaction towards Uzbekistan", funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund, UNDP is implementing activities to expand legal assistance to residents of border villages.

“As a part of the project, we are transferring 13 sets of computer equipment to the border agency for a total of 23,755 USD to improve the conditions at the checkpoints crossing the border,” said UNDP Project coordinator Kaldarov M.

In his welcoming speech, Colonel Kyyalbek Beknazarov, First Deputy Head of the State Border Service Administration for Batken province emphasized that: “The installation of the new computer equipment at checkpoints across the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border will allow the State Border Service to improve the quality of border control and provide comfortable conditions for residents crossing state border. I would like to note that the State border service of the Kyrgyz Republic is working together with the UN Development Programme to improve social standards of living for residents in border regions.”

The equipment is provided within the framework of the project "Promoting Kyrgyzstan's youth cohesion and interaction towards Uzbekistan" funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund and implemented by UN agencies in Kyrgyzstan (UNICEF, UNDP and UNFPA). The project is aimed at supporting the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on the implementation of cooperation plans between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as increasing social cohesion in border regions.
