Burn Bright

Kyrgyzstan hosts the first children’s camp on energy-saving #BurnBright at Issyk-Kul lake

August 15, 2019, Bosteri – The first children’s camp on energy saving is being held from August 14 to 24, 2019. The event is held with the active support of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations Development Program in cooperation with the Zhetigen International Children's Camp, the Foundation “Smena” (Russian Federation), eco-movement Biom and energy companies of Kyrgyzstan.

More than 200 children aged 9 to 16 years over 10 days will receive knowledge on climate change, energy conservation, environmental and energy safety in the form of interactive lectures, practical exercises, contests, quests, and masterclasses.

Memorable gifts were prepared for all participants in the camp, and the five most active participants in the festival will be awarded trips to the "School of Young Energy Engineers" at the Smena camp (Russia), which will be held from October 20 to November 2, 2019.

“In support of the festival, the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with energy companies have conducted information campaigns to promote an energy-saving lifestyle through thematic lessons in schools, essays and drawings contests for schoolchildren and young people, open days at fuel and energy enterprises, etc. I’m sure that Kyrgyzstan, having taken the baton this year, will have a great unique camp on the Issyk-Kul shore and the participants will be able to learn a lot of knowledge and practical skills to save our planet,” said Aybek Akmoldoev, Stats Secretary of the State Committee for Economics and Politics at the opening of the camp. On August 23, the festival #BurnBright will be held which aims to popularize an energy-saving lifestyle, the formation of ecological culture of the younger generation, and the introduction of modern energy-saving technologies among the population.

In a specially organized photo zone, children are allowed to try on the clothing of power engineers and take a photo. For those interested in the profession of power engineering, an excursion to the substation is planned.

“Thematic camps are regularly held in the Russian Federation were schoolchildren from Kyrgyzstan, winners of republican competitions also took part. We decided to learn from the Russian experience and conduct own camp. In addition to it, during this shift five active participants will be identified who will be awarded trips to the “Young Energy School” educational shift in the Russian Federation from October 20 to November 2, 2019,” said Kumar Kylychev, UNDP consultant.

According to the organizers of the energy camp, this kind of event is being held in Kyrgyzstan for the first time, as a pilot project in the framework of the transfer of Russian experience to the Kyrgyz Republic, and in the future, they plan to apply children's education in energy conservation and ecology in other camps. Pilot energy camp #BurnBright is being carried out with financial support from the regional project “Standards and normative regulation for promoting energy efficiency in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union” and the Zhetigen International Children's Camp and parents.
