The members of Executive Boards of the UN agencies from 18 countries are having their first visit to the Kyrgyz RepublicMay 3, 2016
The planned visit to the Kyrgyz Republic is the first visit of such kind after the Kyrgyz Republic became the member of the United Nations Organization.
2-7 May 2016 the delegation of heads and members of four Executive Councils are visiting the Kyrgyz Republic. These Councils are inter-governmental management agencies of 1) United Nations Development Program, United Nations Population Fund, United Nations Office for Project Services; 2) United Nations Children’s Fund; 3) UN-Women; 4) UN World Food Program.
The members of the delegation include Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and chief diplomatic staff working with representations of 18 countries with the United Nations Organization.
During the visit the delegation it is expected to have high – level meetings in the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as in other ministries and agencies. While having a trip to Batken, Naryn and Osh provinces the delegation will be acquainted with concrete programs and projects, meet the representatives of local communities and beneficiaries of aid for development as well as media representatives.
According to the mandate given by the UN General Assembly, the main functions of the Executive Boards include inter-governmental assistance to the UN agencies, general management of their activity, including strategic and programmatic issues of UN system agencies’ operations to facilitate sustainable development of the countries.
The purpose of the visit of heads and members of the UN system agencies’ Executive Boards is to discuss the main priorities for the benefit of sustainable development with the representatives of the state institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic, the civil society and the donor community.
During the trip to the Kyrgyz Republic, including visits to the oblasts, the delegation will evaluate the outcomes of programs and projects which are implemented in the Kyrgyz Republic, inter alia, in the area of comprehensive territorial development, assistance to improvement of social and industrial infrastructure, entrepreneurship and trade, delivery of various services to the population, food security, protection of maternity and childhood, support to pre-school, school and vocational education, ensuring gender equality, support to women and youth, peacebuilding etc.
Specific attention will be paid to the joint efforts of the UN system to implement the UN Development Assistance Framework for the period of 2012 -2017 as well as prospects of further cooperation for the next 5 year program cycle.
The visit to the Kyrgyz Republic is caused by active involvement of the UN system in the on-going democratic, social and economic transformations in the country, strengthening peace and neighborhood as well as high commitment to the priorities of sustainable development. Strategic priorities and measures undertaken in the Republic are reflected in the acting national strategies and programs which take into account the UN Millennium Development Goals and are accompanied by practical steps towards their achievement.
A new step in this direction will be the on-going work to draft new Concept of sustainable development of the country for the period until 2030, which is directly linked to the UN Sustainable Development Agenda and Goals for the next fifteen years adopted during the UN Development Summit in September 2015 with the participation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The report on the findings of the visit prepared by the delegation members will be widely disseminated in the UN system, including the forthcoming sessions of the Executive Boards; it will be also sent to the Kyrgyz Republic for use in future activities.
