Government officials of Tajikistan studied experience on mainstreaming the “green” growth indicatorsSep 29, 2015
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan - On September 21-25, representatives of state bodies and UNDP Projects of Tajikistan visited Kyrgyzstan. The visit was aimed at study the experience of Kyrgyzstan in developing and introduction the concepts, knowledge, methodologies and tools on Green Economy and the Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services to support the P-E mainstreaming process, as well as Green Economy principles in formulation of the country strategic framework.
The mission members participated in the “Monitoring and evaluation of green growth indicators in the Kyrgyz Republic” workshop. They were introduced the system of monitoring and evaluation of “green” growth indicators in the Kyrgyz Republic and approaches, that provide public officials with complete, timely and reliable information on the changes in the socio-ecological and economic spheres for the rapid response and timely decision-making.
One of the important outcomes of this activity was a study tour at sites, where “green” technologies are successfully used. Thus, guests from Tajikistan visited the Center for the Development of Renewable Energy Sources, where they were acquainted with the work of a solar shower and furnace, the benefits of biogas technology with the volume of 100 m3, which processing capacity is 5 tons of fast food wastes and produces effective fertilizers and biogas. The representatives of the mission also visited the farm of “Daamdu Sut” Ltd., it effectively uses drop irrigation in greenhouses for growing strawberries and vegetables, and for heating these greenhouses uses biogas. Study tour members also visited a rehabilitation center for homeless children organized by the Mayor’s Office of Bishkek, where the photovoltaic power plant was installed, it supplies the center with electricity, 108 children live in this center. Two solar water heating systems supply the center with hot water.
“Our visit is important in terms of the mainstreaming of the “green” economy, yesterday we took part in the workshop, where found out about the monitoring and evaluation of “green” growth indicators. I would like to outline that Kyrgyzstan has a methodology for monitoring and evaluation of these indicators” – noted Mirzoanvar Ahmadov, the member of the Parliament of Tajikistan, a member of the Environmental Committee of Tajik Majalis.
During the visit, the participants also met with representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the National Statistics Committee, State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry, as well as with NGOs.
The UNEP-UNDP Poverty–Environment Initiative is implemented through the support of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and provides financial and technical support in mainstreaming environmental priorities and poverty reduction issues into national, sectoral and local development strategies and plans. The main partners of the Initiative in Kyrgyzstan are the Ministry of Economy, the State Agency on Environment Protection and Forestry, the State Agency on Local Governance and Interethnic Affairs and the National Statistics Committee.
