Development of strategies and plans with focus on sustainable development issuesSep 15, 2015
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (15 September 2015) – On September 15-16 the “Strategic Planning for Sustainable Development” workshop, organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the State Personnel Service (SCS) under the support of the UNDP-UNEP Poverty and the Environment Initiative, held in Bishkek. The two-day event was focused on practical development of methodological basis for the development and inventory of policy and strategic documents on their relevance in the context of achieving the targets and priorities of the National Sustainable Development Strategy until 2017.
“Today the capacity strengthening process on strategic planning for sustainable development for the public servants, including the local level, is becoming more systematic. And this is particularly important, as 2015 is a “starting point” in the development of Kyrgyzstan in the context of the Global POST-2015 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, - noted Aidai Kurmanova, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic in her welcoming speech.
Within two days, the participants gained knowledge about the basic concepts and definitions of sustainable development, the details of the National Sustainable Development Strategy for the period until 2017, studied the methodology of strategic planning and inventory of government strategic documents for compliance with the basics of strategic planning in the Kyrgyz Republic.
In 2014, an introduction workshop, dedicated to the development of strategic plans for implementation the National Strategy for Sustainable Development, with the participation of state secretaries of ministries and state agencies bodies and public officials responsible for the development of strategic plans was held.
The UNEP-UNDP Poverty–Environment Initiative is implemented through the support of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and provides financial and technical support in mainstreaming environmental priorities and poverty reduction issues into national, sectoral and local development strategies and plans. The main partners of the Initiative in Kyrgyzstan are the Ministry of Economy, the State Agency on Environment Protection and Forestry, the State Agency on Local Governance and Interethnic Affairs and the National Statistics Committee.
