Naryn, Kyrgyzstan, 20 August 2015 – In Jumgal district of Naryn province a mini-enterprise for the production of concrete blocks has been established. The workshop was established under the UNDP’s Naryn Area-Based Development Programme, which is under implementation with the financial support of the Government of the Russian Federation. The amount of the project assistance equals to 492 thousand soms.

Today, the mini-enterprise employs 6 people from the local community. They produce about 700 concrete blocks per day, which are sold to customers from neighboring villages.

“Before the start of the municipal workshop, the villagers imported concrete blocks from Kochkor district. The average price of one concrete block together with transport costs made up from 37 to 40 soms. With the opening of the enterprise, people acquired a great opportunity to save time and money, because the products we produce are 30% cheaper and much closer to the consumers. In addition to the villagers, the orders are received from residents of the 5 neighboring villages”, - says Ruslan Tajiev, Head of the local community.

The UNDP’s Naryn Area-Based Development Programme, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation is under implementation in 30 villages of Ak-Tala, At-Bashy and Jumgal districts. The main goal of the Programme is to reduce poverty in the Naryn province through the creation of conditions for sustainable socio-economic development.
