Kyrgyzstan hosted a regional workshop on promotion of tradeApr 15, 2015
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, April 15, 2015 – On April 15, 2015 representatives of Chambers of Commerce of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan gathered in Issyk-Kul to attend a three-day workshop on strengthening joint strategies to promote regional trade. The participants worked together to find ways to expand trade and economic relations between the two countries, develop regional business and strategies.
Chambers of Commerce of these Central Asian countries are responsible for development of foreign economic relations and exhibition activity. Despite cooperating at the level of senior management within a number of associations, there is an insufficient level of interaction on lower levels. This hampers development of trade and economic relations in the region.
In this context, this workshop aims to improve interaction between the middle management of Chambers of Commerce, but other institutions like “Single Window” state entity, Investment Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, etc. and non-governmental organizations of Central Asia. Also, the workshop aimed to consolidate efforts of all stakeholders to promote goods and services of domestic producers in domestic and foreign markets, including Central Asia.
Cooperation in this area should be the basis for a common understanding of the significant role of the interstate exhibition activity in the economy of the Central Asian countries, the development of constructive engagement and strategic partnership. The first steps in cooperation were taken by Viktor Strelnikov, the founder of www.agro.kg agroportal, and Makhinakhon Suleimanova, the Executive Director of Neksigol Mushovir public organization—developer of www.agroinform.tj information portal in Tajikistan. They signed a memorandum of understanding between agro portals of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and are planning to exchange news, information about agriculture in neighbouring counties, agricultural events and else.
The workshop was organized by the UNDP Aid for Trade project funded by the Government of Finland and in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic. The project, which is part of the regional programme, helps to improve trade policies, enhance the capacity of trade support institutions, local authorities in the integration of trade into the strategic planning process, improve the interaction between trade organizations in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The project also aims to improve inter-state trade between Kyrgyzstan and neighboring countries in the Ferghana Valley, as well as cooperation in the field of trade policy research and encourage links between institutions for trade facilitation in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.Contact information:
