Experts discuss development of mountain skiing tourism in KyrgyzstanJul 4, 2013
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (July 4, 2013) – The Conference titled “Mountain skiing dimension and competitiveness of Kyrgyzstan” took place in Bishkek on July 4 2013. Participants of the conference discussed the concept of developing mountain skiing and a newly developed “Kerege-Tash” ski resort project.
If implemented properly the “Mountain skiing dimension development” project in short terms will help achieve positive changes in a number of sectors of economy. A new approach to tourism in Kyrgyzstan will attract considerable investments into the country and create thousands of new workplaces.
“The whole idea around the cluster is excellent, but it is required to carry out additional researches and coordination activity, including with the local residents” says Sergey Magai, head of the department for organizational and legal work at Tourism Department under the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism.
On May 14 2013 the National Council on Sustainable Development of the Kyrgyz Republic decided to include “Mountain skiing dimension development” project, initiated by Kyrgyz Entrepreneurs’ Union and supported by Council for business development and investments under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, into the list of investment projects. For now the relevant draft of the Kyrgyz Republic President’s Decree on this issue is being prepared.
“We need to elaborate the economic and technical justification of proposed cluster with the involvement of all interested parties and professionals, make calculations, prognosis, indicate risks. And only after all this work done we can suggest this document to the Government” noted Sanjar Mukanbetov, deputy minister of economy.
Representatives from ministries, departments, local governments, business associations and international donor organizations were invited to participate in this conference.
Participants of the conference adopted a resolution on resolving issues of “Mountain skiing dimension development” project’s realization.
The conference was organized by the initiative of the Secretariat of the Council for Business Development and Investments under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tourism Department of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism and “Mountain Cluster” Association with the assistance of UNDP in Kyrgyzstan.
