Strong spirit to build unity and peaceSep 23, 2016
Parishioners of the Orthodox Parish School “Svetoch”, students and their parents joyfully celebrated this long-awaited event - official opening of the sport ground.
22 September the sport ground was opened on the territory of Archangel Michael Church and accompanied with the sport holiday and colorful performance. On the occasion of the celebration, Bishop Daniel of Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan addressed a welcoming speech to the participants of the event.
UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Alexander Avanessov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Osh Roman Svistin, Vice-Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Osh Nurzhan Sharafiev, representatives of Osh city administration and other officials arrived to congratulate students and parishioners.
“This project is directly related to the activities of United Nations Development Programme. Despite of the fact that many Peacebuilding projects are already coming to an end, the work in this direction will be continued. We hope the opening of the playground in the Orthodox Parish School “Svetoch” will be the beginning of new successful achievements of the students,” - noted UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Alexander Avanessov.
In his speech, the Head of the Orthodox Parish Dchool “Svetoch” Archpriest Victor Reymgen thanked UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic, personally Alexander Avanessov, and all participants for their support of the project and expressed his hope that this good case would not only strengthen the physical abilities, but also would strengthen friendship between people, as well as patience and understanding.
The project for the construction of the sports ground was supported by UNDP in the KR and was aimed at involvement of the younger generation in physical education and sports, as well as promoting healthy lifestyle as a way to spread and support mutual understanding and social harmony.
"Svetoch" School is located in the center of Osh city and educates 185 children every year from different ethnic groups. Difficulty to resolve this problem was reducing level of interest in sports among youth, which resulted in their passive participation in sport competitions. Before, the physical training lessons and preparation for various sport competitions were held in various sport halls and gyms on the basis of the rental fee. It created additional costs for the school and the church. The construction of this sports ground at the territory of “Svetoch” School was promoted by the joint efforts of the local community which believes in positive influence of the project.
