12 May 2016 at the UN House, UNDP Advisory Board and civil society in the Kyrgyz Republic held their first meeting.

The overview of the program approach and UNDP’s planning of strategic cooperation with civil society was presented in the meeting. In particular the objectives of sustainable development till 2030 (LRC), evaluation of the UNDAF and UNDP Country Program for 2012-2017, as well as the planning of the UNDAF and UNDP Country Program for 2018 -2022.

Aliona Niculita, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic welcomed participants.

"The idea of creation of the Advisory Board from among the representatives of civil society coincided with the proposals from non-governmental organizations of the Kyrgyz Republic, who expressed a wish to strengthen cooperation and dialogue with the UNDP and the UN in general, according to various important areas of the country, such as the development of a democratic society, the rule of law, protection of human rights and other issues that affect the overall process of socio-economic development of the country. Taking into account my experience with the civil society, it should be noted the importance and timeliness of UNDP initiatives in the Kyrgyz Republic for the establishment of the Advisory Board from the number of civil society organizations. The proposals and recommendations of the Advisory Board shall contribute to the formation and implementation of UNDP programs and projects in the social and economic area, the strengthening of democratic governance, peace and stability in the country, as well as addressing issues in the field of environment and prevention of natural disasters,” - UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic noted in her speech.

In addition, Ms. Niculita also told members about the work of UNDP, its priorities and plans for the next 5 years. She emphasized the topics that UNDP was being focused on, including the adaptation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Kyrgyz Republic in the context of the country, as well as participation and the role of civil society in the implementation of these objectives.

Mira Djangaracheva - a member of the UNDP Advisory Board, told: “In such a level of international organizations, this happened for the first time - an instrument designed to involve civil society in the implementation of all UNDP program documents. It is a great responsibility and a high level of confidence. Expectations of future work are very large, to my mind. The authority, professionalism and the importance of each member of the Board representing the major areas of the country's civil society is largely in demand for the promotion and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the country.”

The next meeting of the Board will be devoted to the Sustainable Development Goals.
