Staff of press-offices of 22 ministries and agencies trained to sustainable development, poverty and environment issues
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – On October 17-19 UNDP organized a capacity building workshop on the issues of sustainable development and promotion of these issues at national level. Staff of press-offices, professionals working with mass media, public relations of 22 ministries and agencies were introduced in details to poverty reduction, environment issues and sustainable development processes in Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, the training included sessions on public relations, communications, new media (SMM) and media relations.
“This workshop was very useful. I started working for our agency recently and had no opportunity to learn about key documents like the National Strategy on Sustainable Development or the Programme on Transition to Sustainbable Development till 2017. I’m glad that we discussed them in detail during the workshop. It will be easier to promote these issues in future” noted Tamara Valieva, press secretary of the State Agency on Local Self-Governance and Interethnic Affairs under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Today when many countries have adopted the model of sustainable development, Kyrgyzstan also have joined the initiative. And the establishment of the National Council for Sustainable Development under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on 24 November 2012 confirms the political course of the country. The council has already started its work by joining the efforts of all branches of the government, the private sector and civil society for the future of Kyrgyzstan. The National Strategy for Sustainable Development for 2013-2017 was approved by the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic; also the Programme on transition to sustainable development was developed. In this process, the role of public information and press offices of the government structures is very critical. Considering these circumstances, it is necessary to strengthen the capacity of staff, which is responsible for raising awareness in this field.
«It is important that we’ve learned so many new things about the concept of sustainable development, and about international experience in this field. But the most important thing is that we had an opportunity to discuss the current work in this field, share experiences.” Said Urmat Bakyev, Specialist of press-office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The workshop was organized by the UNDP Socio-Economic Dimension.
