    Staff of Chui oblast social care institutions participated in a workshop on minimum standards of social care

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – On August 15, directors of residential social care institutions of Chui oblast of Ministry of Social Development participated in an introductory workshop on minimum standards of social services for people residing in social care institutions. The workshop participants discussed issues of providing social services, cooperation with territorial social, educational and health care departments.

    Leaders of Volunteer Rescuers from Naryn trained in Ministry of Emergency Situations

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – From July 16 till July 25 leaders of volunteer rescue teams of Konorchok and Ak-Chyi rural districts of Naryn oblast participated in a training course at the Kyrgyz Repulic Ministry of Emergency Situations Training Center. Volunteer rescuers gained were trained on rescuing and salvage operations, first aid, application of technical equipment during rescue operations etc.

    UNDP and residents of Talas province and Suusamyr valley continue successful implementation of joint projects

    Human Development as the Focus of Local Self-Government: HERE AND NOW!

    The level of human development in the Kyrgyz Republic is largely dependent on the development of local self-government (LSG) It is at the local self-government level the most important basic services that create an environment for human development are provided. Here a person receives primary and secondary education, which largely determines his future. Here are opened or not opened opportunities for personal development. These ideas are reflected in the National Human Development Report published by the United Nations Development Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic. "The report explores interrelations between concepts of local self-governance and human development" notes the preface to the 2012 report. "This is an important finding of authors that explicitly show that in the center of local self-government is a human being with his or her personal needs and development opportunities."

    Draft Third MDG Progress Report was Discussed in Bishkek

    Discussion of the draft third report on progress in achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the Kyrgyz Republic took place in Bishkek. The third report focuses on strengthening approaches for better and full consideration of opinions from interested parties, i.e. representatives from ministries, state departments, UN agencies, who worked jointly on Report’s Sections.

    Final workshop on macro and micro simulation for achievement of MDGs in Kyrgyzstan took place in Bishkek

    The final workshop on macro and micro simulation to assess development support measures and strategies took place on June 25, 2013 in Bishkek. It was the closing workshop of the 14 others that were organized in 2012-2013 for staff of the key ministries and agencies with involvement of the representatives of scientific and educational institutions.

    Government officials of Kyrgyzstan are preparing climate change adaptation measures

    Koi-Tash, Kyrgyzstan (June 21, 2013) – On June 19-20 representatives of ministries and government agencies participated in the introductory workshop “Adaptation to Climate Change” – the first in a series of activities to build capacity of state and local government officials on climate change issues. The workshop was conducted for officers of ministries and state agencies who are directly concerned with adaption to climate change – agriculture, healthcare, energy industry, prevention of emergency situations, conservation of water, forest resources and biodiversity.

    Local authorities and communities of Naryn and Osh provinces join their efforts to develop tourism

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – About 50 representatives of local communities and the private sector involved in tourism, as well as representatives of local authorities of Osh and Naryn oblasts participated in workshops on community based tourism. Participants learned about international experience of community based tourism and benefits of this type of tourism for their regions.

    Back to Peace through Rebuilding Trust: Women and Youth in Batken

    Women and youth in the remote southern villages of Iskra and Andarak in Kyrgyzstan are organized into the initiative self-help groups since September 2012 as part of local community peace building efforts. The women’s self-help groups in two villages that included unemployed representatives of two ethnic groups, Kyrgyz and Tajik, jumped in the joint income generating activities.

    E-Leadership Week Launched in Bishkek

    Kyrgyz Republic Government and UNDP launched the E-Leadership Week in Bishkek which will take place from 3 June to 9 June 2013. During the week members of the government, expert community, international organizations as well as representatives of best practice countries will discuss the prospects for promoting E-Governments and E-Governance in the country. The issues related to E-Governance implementation in Kyrgyzstan along with the achieved progress will be addressed during the scheduled events.

    A new bridge provides for a safe crossing through Itagar river for 2000 families in Avletim village district

    Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan – Residents of Avletim village district constructed a new bridge over the river of Itagar that they have to cross to get to the hospital, government offices and a school. 80 meter-long bridge shortened the way to the nearest social institutions to 6-7 km and provides a safe crossing of the river for more than 2,000 families of the village district.

    Ministry of Healthcare received 6 million soms Equipment to Help Identify Persistent Organic Pollutants in Environment

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – Preventive Healthcare and Expertise Department of the Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Healthcare received equipment to identify polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) – persistent organic pollutants in environment. PCB management and disposal project in Kyrgyzstan has handed over 6 million KGS worth of equipment that include express-analyzers, gas chromatograph, and laboratory ware.

    Japan and UNDP Launch 204 Million Japanese Yen (2.2 US Dollars) Project to Strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s Capacity in Countering Disasters with a Focus on Cooperation in Central Asia

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – The Government of Japan has granted 204 million Japanese Yen ($2.2 million US Dollars) for a project aimed at strengthening disaster response and risk assessment capacities in Kyrgyzstan. The project will also help facilitate an increased dialogue in the area of disaster risk reduction within Central Asian countries. The funding is given through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) in implementing activities planned in Country Programme Action Plan 2012-16 signed between UNDP and the Government of Kyrgyzstan.

    UNDP Provides Support in Prevention Disaster Risks in Kyrgyzstan

    Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – In 2011 UNDP Disaster Risk Management Programme provided twenty small grants aimed at disaster risk reduction in the most vulnerable communities of Kyrgyzstan. Total amount of projects, implemented in six provinces of Kyrgyzstan: Batken, Osh, Jalal-Abad, Chui, Issyk-Kul and Naryn is 8.9 million KGS out of which 4.2 million KGS (47 %) is contribution of UNDP. About 49 thousand people benefited from implementation of these projects.
