The project on “Effective Disaster Risk Management for Sustainable Development and Human Security” makes stronger emphasis on:

  • integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into sustainable development programming
  • strengthening of national disaster risk assessment and monitoring capacity
  • building local level DRR capacity
  • strengthening regional cooperation and making DRR gender and age sensitive

The center-piece of this Project Document is to assist in shifting the focus of national and local disaster risk reduction policies and practices from post-disaster response and recovery to comprehensive disaster risk reduction, which is synergetic with climate change, poverty reduction, good governance and other interrelated dimensions, so to increase human security and safety.
