Annual Report on the implementation of UNDP project in support of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, funded by The Global und to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria - 2014

UNDP is the Principal Recipient of three Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria grants in Kyrgyzstan since January 2011.

The grants are implemented in accordance with international reporting standards and transparent management and control procedures. UNDP traditionally submits annual reports on the implementation of GF grants to members of the Country Coordinating Mechanism, national partners, civil society and mass media.

HIV grant
The HIV grant is designed to decrease the HIV epidemic by promoting accessibility and quality of prevention, treatment, detection, care and support services among key population groups in the Kyrgyz Republic. The grant aims to increase the effectiveness of national measures to slow down the spread of HIV infection by promoting accessibility and quality of prevention, treatment, detection and care services within national efforts to respond to HIV. It also aims to develop the capacity of national institutions and key populations groups at higher risk.

Tuberculosis grant
The TB grant “Consolidation and Expansion of the 'Directly Observed Treatment, Short Term (DOTS) Program in Kyrgyzstan by Providing Access to Diagnostics and Treatment of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis” supports the implementation of the state programme on TB and helps national institutions to deliver complex and comprehensive measures to provide access to diagnosis and treatment of drug resistant TB. The grant provides the majority of the countries  second line TB drugs as well as strengthening human and infrastructure capacity, establishing routine drug resistance surveillance throughout the country and upgrading laboratory services.

Malaria grant
UNDP implements the malaria grant aimed at the cessation of local transmission and transition to elimination of malaria in the Kyrgyz Republic. The program aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the National Malaria Control Program and general health care system, improve access to early diagnosis and adequate treatment of malaria, promote cost-effective and sustainable vector control, improve capacities for timely response to malaria outbreaks, strengthen surveillance and research capabilities and increase community awareness and participation in malaria prevention. The grant focuses on the provision of bed nets impregnated with long lasting insecticide (LLINs) to pregnant rural women and families with small children (up to 5 years old) in affected areas.
